The ability for young people to access Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics learning opportunities can be quite limiting. Here’s how IOE researchers are collaborating with others to break down barriers and ramp up representation. The YESTEM (Youth Equity + STEM) project brings together researchers and practitioners in the UK and US to develop an integrated approach centred on “Justice Oriented Informal STEM” to empower underrepresented young people as key partners in STEM’s present and future. Dr Spela Godec joins the podcast to discuss how YESTEM manages its multi-disciplinary approach across sectors and timezones, working closely with practitioners and young people, creatives including filmmakers and designers, and sharing examples of collaborative work she has found inspiring.
